Dogs of Marshwood Cottage: T-Rex

Meet Rex!

Or T-Rex (that’s the name he came with).
He’s got a “T” on his back. Can you see it?

Rex came to us forever two days before Christmas in 2010. He was five years old.

We first met Rex a year before we adopted him when we fostered him for a local shelter. He’d been given up for aggression issues, but MamaLindy (being a Certified Pet Dog Trainer), assessed him and said he was in a stressful environment and was afraid of his owner’s boyfriend. Against her advice, the shelter returned Rex to his previous owners who had promised to work with him. We told the shelter that if Rex ever came back to them, we’d adopt him no questions asked. About a year later, he was the best Christmas present we got that year!

Rex is a Miniature Rat Terrier born in an Arkansas puppy mill and purchased from a Massachusetts pet store.

Argh!

That was his past....today he’s such a happy energetic little guy with a charming chortle who has become a wonderful companion for Buzz.

He loves group naps and gets along with the cats, too!

MamaLindy taught him to play fetch with a little rubber toy we call a “binky” to keep him fit. He loves to tease Buzz and will steal her binky just to drive her crazy.

At first Rex was reluctant to go in the dog pool, but then MamaLindy showed him how great it is, and now loves to take a quick dip on hot days.

Rex (also known as “Mr. Wiggle-Butt”) loves people and will wiggle his little stub tail and twist his body into a submissive curve when you give him attention.

Here is a link to our favorite video of Rex when he was trying on his new booties!
Rex sure increased the terrier energy in our household, but he came just as the old timers were slowing down.

We think he's a pretty handsome fellow!

Thanks for stopping by to meet Rex!

Old Dog Cooper

When you're an old dog,
sometimes it's just too much work
to climb all the way into the bed.

Exploring the (Mossy) Woods with Cooper

A woods walk

with Cooper!

'Ya comin’?

What a treat to see two of these pretties.

I love the two textures of moss next to each other, and look at the knobby root on the upper right laughing.

An Open Heart

Rose quarts maybe?

Looks like white fingers coming out of the ground

We should call it Mosswood Cottage!

Can you see a pudgy face in this moss?

I see a troll, Alf or maybe Miss Piggy (but not the Madonna with Child).

We hope you enjoyed our mossy walk!

Dogs of Marshwood Cottage: Cooper

Since we have four dogs in addition to seven cats, dogs are a very important part of life at Marshwood Cottage. It is long overdue for us to formally include them in our daily Cat of Nine Tales posts.
We begin in order of their seniority (age).

This is Cooper, our 15 year old Jack Russell Terrier.

He’s been DP’s heart and soul, and inspired her to become a Certified Professional Dog Trainer.

In his long and eventful life Cooper has been an Assistant Carriage Driver with DP when she drove a carriage in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

He was a professional model for Pet Edge pet supply wholesaler where many of his shots from 10 or more years ago can still be seen.

Cooper was a muscular and agile star athlete...

kept buff by running in Flyball Tournaments for several years.

You can see him run in this video from 2009 (turn your volume down!).

He even earned his “Iron Dog” status for running Flyball for 10 years!

Cooper’s won many titles in Obedience Trials and was a Therapy Dog.

Today, Cooper is retired from active life. He has mellowed a lot!  Since he is 15 years old, he is going senile and has become a bit "lovably" goofy. He is now earning many new titles like "Old Man," Gramps," and "Cooper Magoo."

Although the former athlete is arthritic, mostly deaf and mostly blind, he still enjoys a couple of walks a day in our woods and lives for treats.

Thanks for reading about Cooper!
We'll feature our other three dogs in the days ahead.

Thanks for stopping by!

Cat Bed - Variations on a Theme

You may recall how much Owen loves his cat bed. Here is a link to the post from when he first got it .

Although he loves his bed, he is happy to share it, but each kitty has their own variation on how to sleep in it.

Here is Owen kneading away!

Penny doesn't need too much space when she makes a Pennyball.

This time it looks like Stuffed Yukon

Wizard just seems to be waiting

Hey! You're not a kitty! Hmmmm...Cooper fits pretty good.

Hmmmm...Angus does not fit pretty good.

But that's okay, Owen still doesn't mind sharing!
BTW - They really are napping.

Monday Morning Hangover

This is Cooper, one of our Jack Russel Terriers.
We call this photo "Nothing to do..."

He fits inside the little round bed just fine when he curls up into a dog ball. The bed is one of his favorites.
I guess this day he decided he'd try something different.

Happy Holidays From Cat of Nine Tales

The gang at Cat of Nine Tales hopes...

your wrappings are done...

your Christmas tree's hung...

you're waiting and watching for
Santa to come.

May your weather be fair.

Remember to share...

be sure to lick your stockings with care.

Don't over stuff

or get caught in a fluff...

Take time to reflect on having enough.

Wishing you joy and happiness during this holiday season and all year long.

Merry Christmas from
Lisa, DP, Moseley, BJ, Nick, Wizard, Penny, Angus, Yukon, Snafu and Owen and our canine side-kicks Stanze, Buzz and Cooper!

Cat of Nine Tales will be taking a break until after the holidays, but I'll be around to visit for sure.
See you... ~Lisa Co9T
