Flashback Friday: Penny

Here is Penny in 2006 (on the right with the splotch on her nose) at about 5 months old with a younger foster we took in for a few days. 

The foster was named Me-Me because she meowed really loud when she wanted something, "ME! ME!"

I wanted to call her Rose-Marie because of the bow in her red hair.

The Grand Opening!

The cat enclosure was officially closed in January

The piles of snow coming off the roof made it fairly inaccessible

By late last week the piles of snow melted quite a bit

But looking inside, you can see winter had taken it's toll. One ramp snapped in two and the entry ramp pulled down from the window. Several shelf brackets bent forward.

WE WANT OUT!!!

After some shoveling, MamaLindy got to work Friday morning. The first day of her vacation.

By 4:30 that afternoon, it was open for business!

With many new upgrades! More shelves, higher shelves, more ramps and two ladders!

We still have some snow to deal with...

But the new high ramps make great sun bathing spots.

Next year, MamaLindy will put a cover over the enclosure like we did our first year at Marshwood Cottage.

It's Time for Lunch!

No, not prisoners...

Every morning all the kitties go into the bedroom so that Snafu can come out of his room, have a peaceful breakfast and spend some one on one time with me.

Then, when it's lunch time, everycat is ready to come out and eat!

We're hungry!!!

By this time of day, Snafu has found a napping spot that is out of the path of other kitties, and the delicate balance is maintained.

Prizes in the Mail

The kitties of Marshwood Cottage won the Giveaway sponsored by 15AndMeowing.com and were very intrigued by the smell of this neat little package!

Penny and Angus were the first on the scene.

When I opened the package Penny took first rights of inspection as befits her queendom.

Owen, of course couldn't resist wanting to know.

But Penny made it known it was her nip mat until she was finished.

After Penny gave it up, Wizard had a look-see.

Then finally Owen got his chance.

I didn't realized Angus was waiting patiently in the wings for his chance...

to abscond with the whole mat!

Angus wasn't taking any chances...

He wanted to inspect the mat in private!

No teeny tiny sniffy sniffy for Angus!

He wanted the full nip mat experience! Look at those glowing eyes in his reflection!

Penny eventually found him out and took back her rights.

So Angus did the next best thing and played with the packaging!

Cat Shelves? We Got 'em!

Since Marshwood Cottage is, well, a cottage, it is quaintly small and feline real estate comes at a premium. DP, being very creative and handy with a screwdriver and level, took advantage of the vertical interior landscape and built several cat shelves.

These are located in our den and required an alternate escape route.

These shelves are directly above my workstation to try to curb cat crossings directly on my laptop...still working on that.

The highest shelf on each set is a bed and a coveted spot indeed, especially for lording it over your enemies.

...or just relaxing in relative safety.

They are a great spot for snoopervizing the Mama.

But there can be traffic jams to contend with.

Yukon enjoys just hanging out with a friend!
