The Mighty Hunter

Remember our post from just the other day about the full barn cat experience?

All hail the Mighty Hunter!!

YUKON!

This early morning gift was brought in from the cat enclosure and laid at MamaLindy's feet. She promptly offered it up to the nature gods (meaning she tossed it in the field).

We're so proud!

Two Tailless Tabbies on Tuesday

It's 3:00 AM.

Dark.

A quick jaunt to the bathroom is imminent.

The flashlight scans a pathway and lands on this....

Wait!

Must stop, find the camera and take a picture first!

Okay, carry on...

What We Do During a Blizzard

Cats can not go out into the cat enclosure during a blizzard!

MamaLindy shovels a path around the yard for little dogs.

Howard loves the snow!

Rex says being outside in the blizzard takes a lot of energy and snuggling in Howard's pants is nice and cozy.

MamaLindy provides indoor recess fetch!

Cat Shelves? We Got 'em!

Since Marshwood Cottage is, well, a cottage, it is quaintly small and feline real estate comes at a premium. DP, being very creative and handy with a screwdriver and level, took advantage of the vertical interior landscape and built several cat shelves.

These are located in our den and required an alternate escape route.

These shelves are directly above my workstation to try to curb cat crossings directly on my laptop...still working on that.

The highest shelf on each set is a bed and a coveted spot indeed, especially for lording it over your enemies.

...or just relaxing in relative safety.

They are a great spot for snoopervizing the Mama.

But there can be traffic jams to contend with.

Yukon enjoys just hanging out with a friend!

Dogs at Marshwood Cottage: Buzz Girl

This is Buzz Girl

Buzz was born in January 2000 and is 14 years old. She is a Jack Russell Terrier and came from the same breeder as Cooper. They share the same grandmother (she is 9 months younger than Cooper), making them 1st cousins!

We love her fuzzy rough coat, but keep her shaved down to be cleaner since she loves froggin’…

… and being dirty.

Like Cooper, Buzz was a model for Pet Edge Pet Supply. She’ll do anything for a chunck of hot dog or a piece of cheese. Look at these poses!

Also like Cooper, Buzz played flyball for many years and has since retired.

But she still loves to play fetch to this day.

Buzz’s full name is "Princess Busy Buzz Girl" because she is always busy having fun.

She loves her pool and especially the water hose.

She is our best hunter and swoops vermin right from under the boys’ noses.

She’s so stealthy and quiet while the boys just bark at their prey.

Buzz unabashedly loves men.

 Little boys…

…and big boys.

Like most self respecting terriers, Buzz’s favorite word is…

TREATS?

That’s our sweet “Buzzbellina!”  We hope you enjoyed getting to know her!

Next, we’ll feature T-Rex!

Friday at the Movies: A Place at the Table (or under it)

With seven cats, mealtimes are serious business. This video is a hilarious capture of cat drama at mealtime.

First, know that we feed 4 small meals a day (5:30 AM, Noonish, 5:30 PM and 9:00 PM), and this behavior goes on nearly every mealtime. You can call me crazy if you want, but multiple small meals has worked out best for everycat especially, the vacuum cleaner (fastest eater), Angus who'd just barf it all up if he eats too much too fast. Our Vet loves that we feed this way.

Second, everycat wants to be in the prime spot next to the table, next to my right leg. Penny will pester and tease Yukon relentlessly and take all the biting/licking he can dish out, even Owen gets into the act. Notice the little tiff with Angus and Nick behind them. Wizard and Snafu are the only ones who don't get involved. This behavior if far beneath Wizard, and Snafu, well...he's Snafu. Penny gets her way of course.

DP was the photographer and so she posted it to her YouTube Account. If you can't get this to play, click here to go to YouTube.

Enjoy!

A Silly Series of Nick

Silly Nick is sound asleep. Until...

DP brings out the flashy box.

Luckily, it barely disrupts him.

He doesn't even open his eyes.

He just falls asleep again in a new silly position...

Thankful to be Totally Grain Free

We are very excited to be totally grain free now. If we had lots of money or less cats, I'd love to feed raw, but grain free seems to be the most practical and most healthy we can do for our guys.

We only feed them a wet meal in the evening. This picture shows a breakfast meal of (Taste of the Wild) kibble which is at 4:30 or 5:00 AM depending on when I get up...which depends on how much four legged walking I can handle on top of me!

The wet cat food of choice that everyone seems to love is BFF or Best Feline Friends. They all love four or five of the flavors they offer. My biggest fear was that finicky kitties wouldn't eat a particular flavor and others would get extra because of it, defeating our attempt at controlled portions.

Yukon and Owen have both lost ounces and everyone's coat has glossed up nicely. Another benefit is the older kitties, BJ, Wizard and Nick seem to have a lot more energy and everyone is more playful!

Thank goodness they've taken to BFF!

P.S. If you're wondering where Snafu is in the picture...he is in his room at this hour of the morning (he is still free fed and has kibble available to him all the time), but gets the wet food meal with everyone in the evening.

Mancat Monday with Snafu

 Mancats Can Wear Pink Thongs!

Snafu has adopted wearing the thongs that Moseley wore.

The worst of his spraying is contained in a panty liner and he can still do everything he likes.

He can still pester and threaten the other kitties like he is doing here with Yukon.

He can still groom himself.

He can still kick himself.

He can still pace around the house and mark things.

Still able to leap off tables and counter tops.

Still able to nap by the woodstove.

But, most importantly to Snafu...

He is still able to KICK YOUR A**!

Friday we are taking Snafu to a Homeopathic Vet who works with behaviors. Even though he has his own room, takes Amitriptyline daily and we marinate in Feliway (three diffusers in our small mobile home), he still sprays and is very aggressive towards the other cats. It's like having a four year old we can not take our eyes off when he is out of his room. We look ahead and wonder how we are going to live like this for the next 15 or so years. We love him dearly and want him to feel secure and happy without drugging him and possibly causing long term damage to his organs. And we would like something that actually works. Your purrs would be appreciated.
