I walked in the front door last week to find Stanze, our German Shepherd and all the kitties walking through this:
The broken pieces were spead all over the kitchen floor.
After banishing my startled welcome home committee, I immediately grabbed the broom.
An innocent mousie toy had to be sacrificed in the name of safety.
It was fairly obvious whose handy work this belong to.
What do we do now?
This was a start, but on three sets of cabinets it was a bit of a nightmare.
A couple nights ago, I had untied one set of doors while I was making dinner. Even though they were closed, when I popped into the bedroom for a moment, I came back to hear Snafu crawling through the cabinets behind the closed and bungied doors. He pried open the one untied door and jumped in to make his way through. He was so proud, he chirped and chirped quite merrily while crawling over plates, glasses and mugs.
So then DP did this:
So no more this...
Let's keep our paws crossed!

Ah. We see the problem. As nice a surprise as opening a cabinet door and being greeted by Snafu's sweet face can be, lots of breakage can be a bit of a turn off.
ReplyDeleteUh oh! I think Snafu is even more of a trouble-maker than my Nicki. Which is hard to imagine. I hope no paws were cut on the broken glass. I actually don't have any doors on my kitchen cupboards now (long story), but fortunately, while I know the cats all get up there when I'm not around, I've not had them knock anything breakable over.
ReplyDeleteNow watch, when I get home today there will be a mess....
Anyway, I hope that does the trick!
That looks like a good solution, although Snafu sounds like a very determined trouble-maker!
ReplyDeleteWe have our paws crossed also. We hope this works....don't want any more broken dishes and/or cut paws. xxxxxxxxx
ReplyDeleteOh we hope that those work - if he figures that out, though, you might want to look into a tv apperance because that would be amazing.
ReplyDeleteThat is one of my big fears - that I will come home to broken glass. Virgil LOVES to knock stuff down - luckily it is usually plastic.
Poor mousie, but it was for the greater good.
SNAFU!!! You can't be doing that! You could have really hurted your adorable tosies and effuryone else coulda gotted hurty too! Hopefully you will find something else to be obsessed with! You silly boy!
ReplyDeleteGlad no one got hurt!
Aww
ReplyDeleteSilly lovely Snafu!
Be careful you gorgeous cat!
:-)
Take care

Oh no, they didn't! They got the baby latches so now sweet Snafe cannot get into the cabinets and walk all over the clean dishes. Of all the nerve. You will just have to find something else to occupy your time. Poor sweet babies.
ReplyDeleteOh no, rather you than us, but you have alerted me to what might be if I am not careful.... tinkers! Helen and her boys
ReplyDeleteHeeheehee....we can't help but laugh at Snafu all comfy in the cabinet! We never get in the upper cabinets (unless The Mommy leaves one open) but we do get in the lower cabinets. The Mommy put those thingies on the one that holds our food - and the adjacent ones that are part of it - but just lets us get into the rest if we want, and doesn't keep anything breakable. Then it's no fun!
ReplyDeletePurrs and hugs,
The Kitty Krew
I'm so sorry, broken glass is always bad..but I laughed and laughed. My gang is active too but they keep the action low to the ground. did you enter my give basket give away? One more day till we pick the winner!
ReplyDeleteGoodness! You've got some trouble-makers for sure! Don't worry too much, though, we do too! But ours isn't so furry. It's in the form of a 4 year old bean!
ReplyDeleteWe hope that works for you! Our mom has threatened to put those baby latches on our cabinets too!
ReplyDeleteNote from my Mom: Those toddler latches worked very well for our toddlers - in fact it became so automatic to open them, we did it without thinking and on some cupboards they stayed on way beyond the ears when they were needed. Good way to put them to use with the kitties.
ReplyDeleteOops, it's a NKC tradition!
ReplyDeleteBaby locks, those might work.
ReplyDeleteOne can but smile at that last photo, although the damage is very real!
ReplyDeleteWow Snafu - that was very naughty. No wonder you are a member of the Naughty Kitty Club! I'm sorry that your mom is making it even more difficult to be naughty in the future - but I'm sure you will find a way!
ReplyDeleteHeh heh heh... you go Snafu! *RUMBLEPURR*
ReplyDeleteThat last photo is so cute. You are a little monkey Snafu.
ReplyDeleteSnafu you little sweetie pie were so pleased with yourself, you just don't realize how you could get hurt or someone else get hurt. Well WE think your days of cabinetman have come to an end...
ReplyDeletepurry purrs

Snafu--I'm pretty proud of you for conquering the cabinet! :)
ReplyDeleteGood for you Snafu!
ReplyDeleteHi Snafu! Even though you won't be able to go into the cabinets anymore, it's because your mom and dad love you so much. After all, broken glass could cut your cute toesies!
ReplyDeleteLisa: we have implemented the same solution in our house. People always ask why we have baby latches on our cabinets. We always laugh and say that they're not just for human babies!
Tha't a lot of naughtiness.
ReplyDeleteYou were really naughty, Snafu. I'm glad no kitty or woofy got hurt. The baby latches should solve the problem. I got a bunch of them when I adopted Herman, but he shows no interest in the cabinets, so I never got around to putting them on.
ReplyDeletethat's the same solution our mom 'n' dad came to years ago, after nelson lapurr figgered out how to get into the high cabinet where the 'nip was stored. unfortunately, the liquid bean 'nip was also stored there and a bottle of creme de menthe met an untimely end on the ceramic tile floor. so did mom & dad's sleep for that night.
