Wizard is sporting his new lime green collar.
Every Spring Wizard gets a bit of Spring Fever and starts bolting for the open door. So to prevent any long term mishaps, we put a collar and tag on him during this time. Funny thing is when he gets outside, he just lays down and rolls on his back, or runs over to Stanze, or just stops and looks around. When we come outside to get him, his tail shakes with excitement and sometimes he runs right over to us. He never runs off or protests being picked up and brought back in. It's like a game to him. "I did it!" he seems to say.
Last week, before the time change, I let Stanze outside for her last potty run of the evening. It was dark outside and about 20 minutes after she'd come back in and settled down for the night I heard the telltale sound of a cat climbing up a screen door. Several of our kitties were surrounding the closed door with big wide eyes, wondering what the heck was going on out there.
As I cautiously opened the door, I was shocked to find Wizard outside on the steps looking frantic. He ran back in the house and was immediately greeted by many sniffing noses as he seemingly told his exciting tale being left outside.
I figured he must have run between Stanze's legs and I never saw him. His adventure outside only made him thirsty for more of it and he kept meowing this caterwauling type meow to go back out that night.
Luckily he isn't as driven this week, but he hasn't totally stopped trying to get out yet, and we are very concious of his whereabouts when we open any door.
Such a trickster...

The green collar looks perfect on him!
ReplyDeleteHoudini cats ca be a bit of a nuisance but it sounds like it's all show as far as Wizard is concerned!
Wizard, we bet you gave your mom a big scare!
ReplyDeleteOh Wizard that colour and collar suits your beautiful fur!
ReplyDeleteSpring madness is such a joy isn't it?! Have fun!
Take care

Wizard, you are a little bit naughty! We love your basket bed and bedding!
ReplyDeleteMom has been telling me she is going to take me to the VET to get a chip. I like to try to escape from the deck if I can (I jump over the plastic screening across the stairway), and she is afraid one day I will get spooked and run away and not get back home. As soon as I get a whiff of the nice air outside, I ask often to go out onto the deck.
ReplyDeleteWizard, be good and don't get yourself lost! I am glad you came back and fussed to get inside, as it shows you do know how to come home.
It'll be the talk of the house for weeks!
ReplyDeleteWizard, I feel for you, brother. Humans just don't understand our need to be outside exploring, off on adventures. Once I figure out to how escape for good, I'll be over to spring you too! -Nicki
ReplyDeleteActually you look quite content! I love the green collar, lookin' good!
ReplyDeleteThat green collar looks so nice againtst your furs! Next time, just let your mommy know you wanna go out. No Sneakin'...
ReplyDeleteMama has the same problem with Sammy......he tries to sneak out a lot of the time....once years ago, when her and Sammy were living by themselves, unknown to mama, he sneaked out when she came home. It was late and she went directly to bed.....woke once in the night and thought it was strange he wasn't snuggled up to her, but she rolled over and went back to sleep.
ReplyDeleteNext morning she searched the house for him and couldn't find him....in panic she went out the front door and called him and heard this pathetic sounding "meow" coming from the steps that led to the second story apartments......she started up them and there was Sammy huddled up in a little ball with eyes as big as saucers....he had been out all night!!!!! That stopped him wanting out for a while, but he soon forgot......:)
MEOWZA!!!!!!!! I wrote a novel!!!!!

We love the colour of the collar! Chilli is the escape artist here when it comes to the apartement door. You are right, it must be Spring, because it got worse recently. You are lucky that Wizard lets you pick him up. When mom tries to grab us when outside we usually run from her. Hehehehe, FUN times!

Wizard is such a handsome boy with an adorable, sweet face!...It's a good thing he never runs off very far, a very smart boy as well!...xo...Calle, Halle, Sukki

ReplyDeleteI notice with my boys, particularly, Darcy, that he is walking around yowling and would just love to be out all the time. I do let them both out when I can supervised, but its traumatic because they jump the walls. I hope what you say about spring fever is true and they calm down a bit. The birdies building nests, defending territory attract them, I think. It is a worry when you live in such a place where one can't let them be free. Wish I could. We all love the green collar. Love H, Darcy and Bingley
ReplyDeleteOh Wizard you not wants to go out without your mommy!
ReplyDeleteI does the same thing when I sneaks out, I just wants to eat some grass, I don't really want to go 'splor.
Becareful Wizard.

I'm glad Wizard came home quick. Last time Ayla got out, she stayed out ALL NIGHT. I yelled at her when she came back in, but then I tole her it was cuz I was so worried...

Oh it is the sneaky ones that worry me so much - two of ours are always right at the door when they hear it being unlocked or opened. I swear my next house has to have some sort of cat version of an air lock on it!
ReplyDeleteWe think Wizard is very cute in his green collar!
A green collar? Purrfect for St Pawddy's Day!
ReplyDeleteOh Wizard, that was naughty! We are lucky that we can go into the garden and be safe. When the weather gets warmer and drier, our cat door is left open so we can stay out all night if we want to. We like to sleep in our plantpots in the greenhouse then.
ReplyDeleteYep, Wizard...it's that time of year...spring fever is running rampant!! But you're better off not running outside, 'specially at night!
ReplyDeleteWizard
ReplyDeleteYOU are one handsome mancat and your new collar is just purrfect for you. Momma says fankfully none of us really want to bolt outside. We get lots of exposure "outside" on our screened in porch.

So sweet when the cats inside gather round the door when the outsider wants back in. And so very helpful.
ReplyDeleteWizard, don't run away from all the comforts of home! Great collar.
