Snafu on the Offensive

Snafu being a bad boy...

I usually show funny, adorable and sweet photos of Snafu and talk about how aggressive he is.

While in this video he is more of a tease, it can turn mean very quickly, especially if Penny lashes out at him.
That is why I have the spray bottle at hand. Sometimes I can soak him and he barely moves.

Notice how he was looking for trouble, found Penny asleep and made his move?

The herbal remedy still seems to be better than a drugged out Snafu. His anxiety has been notched down a couple pegs.

But...

We still have a major problem with him spraying. DP and I are talking seriously about ripping out the carpet (we just installed 2 years ago), but we can't do that until we have money to replace it with vinyl or tile flooring. We've decided no more cat trees with carpeting, only wooden ones.

It's Snafu's world and we live in it.

  1. We gives you credit for making life easier on Snafu - even if it isn't always easier on you. Not everyone would do that. Sneaking up on Penny he reminds mom of Spud - he likes to stalk Ivy....sometimes we think just to push her buttons. :)

  2. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow...so to speak. Ernie has a tendency to pick on both Wally and Zoey...I think he's trying to assert himself as the leader of the pack.

I hope Snafu's spraying problem lessens. Having lived with a sprayer, I know how frustrating this can be and all the thimgs you do to adjust.

  3. Thank you.

Thank you for not only doing what you do for your boy, but for sharing your struggle. Why? I'd like to be altruistic and say it is because it is nice to see a record of someone who is willing to work with their kitty so if someone else has that issue they can see what you tried, but frankly my fostering puts me in contact with the worst of humanity, those who drop off kittens because "their cat keeps having them" or they don't match the furniture, or they don't even drop them off and put them in a carrier to be brought to the town incinerator (yes, we had a rescued boy as he was on the belt to the fire) It is just so nice to be reminded there are people out there who will be inconvenienced for the love of a cat.

    so thank you.

  4. I remember you showed us Snafu in a diaper panty once. How helpful is that in protecting your carpets etc from the spraying?

    Thanks for sharing your stories.

  5. Snafu is quite a naughty guy, isn't he. Barney can be like that sometimes, just whapping someone else for no reason. He doesn't spray, which is good (we have Lola for that) so hopefully he won't start it. I remember Floyd was a big time sprayer and it did help a lot when we got rid of the carpet (we did find a few puddles after that but that was also party because he was sick by that time). The only good thing at our house was that because the previous owners had a puppy that had accidents in one area Floyd's spraying was pretty well confined to that area (at the apartment it was everywhere). It is good the herbal remedy is helping - to bad it doesn't help the spray issue though. Hopefully you will be able to replace the flooring soon (I understand how it is to have to wait because we made a lot of sacrafices to do it at our place - it took us 5 years to be able to do it)

  6. I too give you so many thanks for working with Snafu. Too many people just won't take the opportunity to work with their animals. I know Ping's former owner didn't which is why he and Jinx and Boo were dumped near our house nearly 7 years ago.

  8. Argh, I feel your pain. We have two antagonizers here, and Sweet Pea is a dedicated sprayer. (She was SO unintentionally ironically named!) We have resigned ourselve to repainting the entire house inside and replacing all the baseboards when she dies. In the meanwhile, the blue light and bleach come out a couple of times a week.
    *sigh*

  9. You're the best! You really are! I am so proud to have met you. I've had a sprayer too! I found that if you swab the walls from knee height down you will get rid of lots of the odor.
If tile will be warm enough in the winter where you live, go for the tile. I have it and would never go back to wall to wall for anything. The next thing for me is putting in tile that looks like wood. The tile store has it in place on their showroom floor and it is gorgeous (darker cherry colour).

  10. you got him!!! I have to say when he was scratching the chair he looked like he was saying..."ohhhh just let me at her....let me just have a piece of her!!!" but then...zappo!!! You got him big time!!
I think that maybe taking out the carpet might be a good idea. It is possible his scent may still be there and that could be why he is still spraying.
