Moseley (Peeper)
2/5/95 to 12/26/09
Moseley was helped to the Rainbow Bridge last night (Saturday, December 26, 2009)…right around midnight. We took him to an Emergency Vet Clinic about 45 minutes away after he experienced a seriously bad turn around dinner time.
We were expecting the end to come soon since he was tentatively diagnosed with stomach cancer back in November. On steroids the last three weeks, he rallied enough to slow his weight loss and have some wonderful quality time out of his room with everyone.
Here he is Tuesday evening with me reading.
He liked to put his paw on my chest.
Wednesday he had enough energy for a last tour of duty guarding his water supply. Don’t worry, we figured we'd spare him from another bath.
Here he is Christmas day enjoying some boxing time.
When I saw him laying like this, I thought of the picture of Callie from The Kitty Krew and knew it would be soon.
Although not a clear picture, this is his last one, on Christmas day.
Since I knew he would be leaving for the bridge soon, I featured him twice in tribute, once in A Serious Lesson and again in The Importance of Water. You can also read his introductory blog with his complicated story here.
He could be a real sweet boy and loved his people dearly, but Moseley had a conflicted life and the energy in the house will definitely be lighter without him. We put a lot of focus on him even before he was seriously ill. I was telling DP it will be a while before I’ll be able to pass by his room without automatically looking in to check on him. I hope he is finally at peace.
I’m sure his old buddy Bustopher was there to greet him at the Bridge, but instead of going over, Moseley stopped short at the banks of the river, to guard his new water supply.
So long Peeper...
Of course I wanted to post about Moseley even though I took a vacation from blogging, but my next official post will be in the New Year.
Wishing you a safe and happy New Year.
Sweet Moseley face in all those pictures. How wonderful to have them. May you have many memories of him and be at peace with his passing over the Rainbow Bridge.

ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear of your loss.. He is no longer in any pain.
ReplyDeleteGodspeed Mosely...if you run into Punkin while guarding your water supply (she would be washing her paws in it) tell her we said to show you around...
ReplyDeleteWe are so very sorry to hear that. We got to know him here as a cat with history, character and a list of instructions. And certainly as a most enigmatic cat, with the bathing thing and still the great love of water. But we are very glad to read you all had good quality moments together his last weeks.
ReplyDeleteWe are so sorry to hear about Moseley. We hope he is running free at the Bridge...healthy and happy. We hope all your memories of Moseley helps you through this sad time. We send you comforting purrs....
ReplyDeleteWe are sorry Moseley had to be helped to the Bridge but he will be free from his cancer there and able to run free and happy. He has without a doubt found a water supply to stand guard over. We send you our purrs of condolence.
ReplyDeleteOH Moes...I just read your story a few weeks ago and thought, bless these women and what they do for him. Because I've got an older cranky cat and I wonder if sometime soon she'll need her own room and a lot more care. I know I can do anything I'm called on to do because I know folks like you do it everyday.
ReplyDeleteWe're so sorry to hear about Moseley. What a blessed life he had with you.
ReplyDeletePurrs,
William, Olivia, Caroline, Russell, Gracie and mom.
We're sorry about Moseley. When we first started reading about him, we were reminded of our old guy, Alex, who went to the bridge just over a year ago at the age of 23. Those old guys have some interesting personality quirks.
ReplyDeleteFly free sweet Moseley, and tell our Alex hello from us.
We are very sorry to hear that Moseley had to leave you. We are sending gentle purrs of comfort to all at your house.
ReplyDeleteRun free at the Bridge, Moseley, and enjoy the water ...

You were the most loving and caring folks Moseley could have ever hoped for. I'm sure many people would have helped Moseley to the Bridge long before this, but you waited until he let you know it was time.
ReplyDeleteHe had the best life he possibly could with you, and I'm sure he's happy now, and feeling fine.
I'm sorry for your loss. Moseley was one eccentric character.
We are so very sad to hear of your losing Moseley. We send purrs and hugs and love in hopes they will give you a bit of comfort. xxxxxxx
ReplyDeletePlease accept our condolences on the loss of Moseley. We know he'll be missed.
ReplyDeleteWe are so sorry to hear about this. Moseley will be greatly missed and he seemed like a real neat kitty.

Oh I am so sad to read that Mosley had to go to the bridge. But it sounds like he had a good last few days which is good. We are sure he is healthy and happy at the bridge, guarding water somewhere and waiting for everyone to come visit him so he doesn't have to leave his post.
ReplyDeleteWe are sending you lots of purrs and prayers - we know how hard it is, even when you know how sick they are.
We're so sorry that Moseley is gone, but we also unnerstand bout the home energy bein "easier". Bonnie left a huge hole in our hearts, yet there was an easing of household tension. You gave Moseley a grate life, in spite of him's trubles. Bonnie was also weird bout her water - runnin from da tap was da bestest. She an Moseley can guard da river at da Rainbow Bridge.
ReplyDeleteHugs and purrs,
Victor, Nina & Tabbymom Jen
We're so sorry that Mosely had to leave for the Bridge.

So so sorry about Mosely. Sometimes it is harder to get over losing a cat like him that was so labor intensive. We spend so much time taking care of them that when they pass, it leaves a bigger hole. Wishing him much peace in his new life at the Bridge. Thanks for caring for him all these years!
ReplyDeleteOhhhh, I'm so sorry to hear about Moseley. My heart is just breaking. {{{ HUGS }}} to you and DP as you guys grieve.
ReplyDeleteWe are sorry to be so very late in stopping by to leave our condolences. Losing our friends is always so hard, whether they are young or old. You clearly gave him all the love in the world and his spirit will be with you always.

ReplyDeleteOur sincerest sympathies to your and your family for the loss of your beloved Moseley. Take peace in knowing he left you with knowing the TRUE meaning of love and a furrever home. He will always watch you from The Bridge awaiting the time you will meet again.
ReplyDeleteIt is so hard to lose a pet/family member. Our 17 year old cat died suddenly on August 2, 2009 from undiagnosed liver cancer. They sure can teach us a lot about life and living till the end even when suffering with a disease. We rescued our 6 year old 5 weeks later as we had no cats in our house for the first time in 27 years and missed having one. Looks like you have a full house. Must be wonderful to have so much love and fun around you. What a great post.
ReplyDeleteOh Im so sorry about your loss. I really like the picture of you and him with his paw on your chest. That there shows just how much your baby loved you. From one cat owner to another Thank You for giving this cat shelter and most of all your Love.
ReplyDeleteFly free at the bridge sweet one!!
Paws & Whiskers,
Jude,Poo,Babybella,Piper & Marley
I am seriously crying right now
